Kedartal usually remains closed during the month of July which is a monsoon season as it starts raining over there and the chances of landslides increase, which is very risky and dangerous for the trekkers. After Monsoon the trek is suitable from mid-september to end of october. Again in November there are high chances of snowfall, which again is risky for trekkers.

The Kedartal trek is an adventurous and energetic journey to enjoy nature’s beauty. It usually takes around 4-5 days to complete this trek. A brief guide to completing Kedartal trek is summarized below:


1st Day of the Trip: Dehradun to Gangotri (Distance 230-240 Km)

The journey to the Kedartal trek usually starts from Dehardun, which is a nearby stoppage to Gangotri. All trekking guides and agencies start the trip from Dehradun and from there they go to Gangotri which takes around 10-12 hour drive. On the way, one can enjoy the beautiful view of Tehri dam(the tallest dam in India) and can enjoy the Ganga aarti at Gangotri Temple.

After arriving at Gangotri, everyone should check their backpacks and every one of the things connected with the journey so no one faces any difficulty when they start the trip the following day.

2nd Day of the Trip: Gangotri to Bhoj kharak (8 Kms trek)

The adventure actually starts on the 2nd day, as it is the beginning of the trek. The total distance to be covered on the first day of the trek is approximately around 8 kms. While moving forward one can enjoy the scenic beauty of the forest consisting of blue pine, fir and bhoj trees. The trekkers on their way also get to see the beautiful kedar ganga flowing. After traveling for a while the first sight of the Mountain Thalay Sagar can be seen. Before reaching Bhoj Kharak one has to cross the Spider Wall, which is a difficult climbing spot.The journey will end at Bhoj kharak however it is a desolate camping area and is suitable to go to Lower Kedar kharak.


3rd Day of the Trip: Bhoj kharak to Kedar Kharak(5 Kms trek)

The destination for the third day is Kedar kharak which is a beautiful and famous campsite in the Gangotri National Park Region. The total of 5 kms needs to be covered on the third day. The views that we come across while reaching Kedar kharak are of Bhrigupanth and Thalay Sagar Peak.

4th Day of the Trip: Kedar Kharak to Kedartal(5 Kms trek)

The fourth day is considered as the crown day. We reach Keadr Kharak to kedartal within 2-3 hours which completes this trekking,however if any one want then they can go for camping in Kedartal and can continue their trek to Jogin advance base camp to see the peak of Mountain Thalay Sagar

5th Day of the Trip: Kedartal – Gangotri (18 Kms)

After seeing the Sun rise and having breakfast in the morning we can proceed to Gangotri. It is important here that the trip course to and from Kedartal is something very similar. In this manner, similarly, if you go to Kedartal, you should return to Gangotri.
